As featured in Commercial Motor on 29/08/24, a Devon firm had their operator's license revoked by Western Area Traffic Commissioner Kevin Rooney.
Principal amongst the Traffic Commissioners reasoning was that the company used 'zero hours' contracts for drivers, and that tax and national insurance was not deducted at source, giving the operator concerned an unfair commercial advantage in the workplace and favourable tax environment.
There was also a litany of other serious failings such as nominating a Transport Manager who acted 'in name only', and a lack of tachograph downloading and analysis amidst other areas of serious concern.
This highlights the requirement for not only sound adherence to legislative requirements, but also ongoing development of compliance systems with a Transport Manager who knows their trade and can deliver what's required.
